What Is Psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is a process of regular meetings with a mental health professional aimed at better understanding yourself, your emotions, thoughts, and behaviors, and at introducing lasting changes that improve quality of life. It can support both the treatment of specific difficulties (such as depression or anxiety) and personal development, relationship building, or stress management.

There are many therapeutic approaches, which differ in how they understand difficulties and in the methods they use. Below you will find short descriptions of the approaches available in the Consult module in Multi.Life.

Therapeutic Approaches Available in Multi.Life

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Focuses on the relationship between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Helps identify unhelpful thinking patterns and gradually change them.
Recommended for: anxiety disorders, depression, stress, mood disorders, and emotional regulation difficulties.

Psychodynamic Therapy

Focuses on unconscious processes, past experiences, and relationships that influence current difficulties.
Recommended for: people who want to better understand the roots of their emotions, relationships, and recurring patterns.

Psychoanalytic Therapy

A more in-depth form of therapy based on exploring unconscious conflicts, emotions, and defense mechanisms.
Recommended for: individuals ready for long-term, in-depth self-exploration.

Humanistic–Existential Therapy

Focuses on the here and now, personal experience, values, and the search for meaning in life.
Recommended for: people experiencing existential crises, loss of meaning, or seeking greater life satisfaction and authenticity.

Systemic Therapy

Looks at difficulties in the context of relationships and systems, such as family or partnerships.
Recommended for: couples, families, and individuals experiencing relationship or communication difficulties.
